The
new album is ready and I love it. Perhaps this sounds odd
to say, but that's unusual - I think for all artists. When
you spend so much time on a work and sink yourself so deeply
into it, it's often the case that the end is an anti-climax
and the result disappointing. Expectations can become magnified
and out-of-whack with reality. The vibe gets lost and replaced
with micro-management and over thinking.
Not so for me, with this album, however. Each
song was treated on its own merit, the process was relaxed
(some would say, "too relaxed"!) and made mostly
painless by the greatness of David J. Carpenter who recorded
and produced the bulk of the music in his smoke-filled studio
in Anaheim and good humor. I also have the legendary Evan
Stone of The Translucent Ham Sandwich Band to thank for producing
a couple of songs and really getting the whole project off
the ground.
I reckon the songs are "Real Love songs",
in that they try to connect to a breadth of emotions and experiences
in relationships. Anyway, I think it sounds good in the car
when I feel good/bad/indifferent...
